See the Mesmerising Instagram Booth Installation at 2017's Met Gala

3rd May

Magnus X Machina: Fashion in an Age, last year's theme, was a dramatic, visual representation of the Vogue ‘insider’ experience, all encapsulated in a bespoke light tunnel. Seeing large fashion institutions and smaller-scale digital designers collaborate to create digitally immersive art, and interactive experiences are exciting.

Anna Wintour certainly took to the collaboration after banning selfies at last year’s Gala and continued the push for branded, movable and interactive content.

And this year’s visual collaboration raised that level. SILA SVETA, an interactive media production and experience studio, created digitally immersive experiences for this year’s 2017 Met Gala.

Housed in the spectacular Metropolitan Museum of Art, the interior design was unsurprisingly going to impress the guests. The designs celebrated conceptual designer, Rei Kawakubo, the Costume Institute’s subject of their new exhibition, “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between”. The Japanese fashion designer has long been known for incorporating roses and florals into her designs. And so the museum housed an array of rose bouquets and floral discs of red, pink and burgundy all in honour of the designer.

Multimedia artists Sila Sveta in collaboration with Vogue created the mesmerising installation and was directed by Canadian photographer Gordon von Steiner. The creatives made video portraits, all individually and systemically released over Vogue & Sila Sveta’s Instagram accounts. Attendees to the installation included A-listers Jaden Smith (dancing with his own dreadlocks), Katy Perry and Celine Dion, all of whom certainly didn’t hurt Sila Sveta’s creative standing.
