Callie Thorpe started her blog back in 2012, originally as a diet diary during a low point in her life. One day, she decided to ditch the negativity and celebrate herself for who she was. Her blog has since inspired girls and women up and down the UK to embrace their size and to live confidently. ‘From the Corners of the Curve’ offers women of all sizes advice on fashion, beauty, healthy eating, travelling and happiness. We talked to Callie about how blogging has changed her life and why she chose The Flash Pack for her wedding.
Q: Describe your blog - 'From the Corners of the Curve'
A: ‘From the Corners of the Curve’ is a blog for women. It is designed to help empower women to live their best, most happy lives. My blog is body shame free and I speak openly and honestly about my journey to self-confidence and what it means to find peace with yourself.
Q: You started your blog in 2012 when you were suffering from low self-esteem. How has blogging changed your outlook?
A: Blogging has changed my outlook completely on how I view and treat myself. Now I treat myself and others with kindness and less judgement. It has been important for me to share with other women the freedom in finding contentment with your body. Of course we all have our down days, but we should never let anyone make us feel bad for the way we are. I believe women of all sizes should be able to enjoy fashion and shouldn't have to wait to be a certain size to wear fashionable clothes.
Q: What have been the highlights of your career so far?
A: One of my biggest highlights was shooting a campaign in NYC, back in March. It was an incredible experience and one which I never thought I would get to do. However, perhaps my biggest highlight was becoming the first UK plus size columnist for Marie Claire. It has been a dream of mine to write a column, so to finally achieve that was truly a dream come true.
Q: What opportunities has blogging given you?
A: Blogging has given me the opportunity to meet people from all backgrounds and walks of life. Also, the ability to reach and inspire like-minded women. I have also been lucky to model in campaigns and travel. That has been wonderful!
Q: You have built an incredible following on social media (Callie has 96.8K* followers on Instagram, 13K* on Twitter and 13K* on Facebook). How do you maintain a connection with your followers? *Followers count at the time of interview.
A: I always try to interact as much as I can. I love getting to know my readers it’s important to me that I answer questions and emails when I get them. I also love meeting up with readers, some of my closest friends I have met on the internet!
Q: You had your dream wedding recently when you married your lovely fiancé, Dan. How did you find the process of planning your wedding?
A: If I am completely honest – I found it pretty damn stressful. Juggling my job, blog and wedding and planning everything felt a lot more pressured. We did a lot of things ourselves such as DIY invites, centre pieces, and favour boxes - these were perhaps the most stressful but thankfully we had a great network of amazing friends which helped us so much.
Q: What advice would you give a bride and groom-to-be who are finding the wedding planning process challenging?
A: It’s a cliché but don’t sweat the small stuff; we did in the run up and we fully regret it now. Things will go wrong and some people may let you down but the most important thing is that you and your husband/wife are happy. Make sure you prioritise that above everything.
Q: What made you choose the Flash Pack for your big day? (Callie chose our Retro Booth for her friends and family to enjoy at her wedding reception) What is it that you love about the Retro Booth?
A: A few years back Dan and I went to Berlin for a city break and we fell in love with the Photoautomats that were dotted around the city. We hopped in one at every opportunity and we loved them so much that when we got engaged, we said we would try our absolute best to get a photo booth just like that for our day.
We searched high and low and finally we came across The Flash Pack! The Retro Booth was everything we wanted and more: it was just the style we were after, it was minimal and allowed for stylish customisation (something that is hard to find with other photo booths). The booth also had a GIF function which was so much fun to have on the day
Q: How did The Flash Pack make your day extra special?
Adam (The Flash Pack Booth Attendant) was really lovely. He helped my mad friends and family so much, who were in and out of the booth all day! What I loved most was the level of customisation provided to us. The light box which said “Dan <3 Cal” was just so perfect and was complimented by everyone. The props were cool and everyone had a ball in the booth. I couldn’t have asked for much more, you guys were perfect!
